What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice
And all things nice
That’s what little girls are made of
Today BBBC 2017 challenge is “Strange thing you believed as a kid”. I have been pondering on this topic and couldn’t think of any strange things that I believed as a child. So, I gave my mother a call last night to see if she remembered anything. The first thing she said was that I believed that I was a monkey and could climb anything. Then she begin to reiterate the story about how I climbed a television tower in order to get on the roof. Or, how many times I have climbed trees and giving her a heart attack over it. I have had heard these stories many times over the years.
To me, it didn’t sound like a strange thing to believe in. However, the more I thought about it, I realized that it seemed strange to her that a little girl would believe that she can do anything like a boy can. In her generation that was unheard of and an unacceptable thing believe in.
Growing up, I can remember all the times that my mother bought me girly girl clothes and it would be still hanging in the closet with the tags on it. I would only wear, jeans and t-shirt all the time. It drove my mother crazy! I also remember skate boarding down the hills, playing football and riding bicycle with the boys in the neighborhood. Even my first vehicle wasn’t a car but a scooter so I can get to and from work every day.
I guess you can say that I was a tomboy growing up. So when I went on the solo motorcycle trip around North America, my mother only shook her head because she knew that I still like to do things that boys do. It may seem strange to her but not to me.
What are little boys made of?
Snips and snails
And puppy-dogs’ tails

Oh, my goodness, your post is the second one today that jogged my memory!
When I was little, my dad used to preface every conversation we two had with, “When I was a little girl…” So naturally I thought when I grew up I would be a guy! And yes, I was a tomboy =]
You know, I think that’s a great way to grow up.

Yes, it is. I’m sure my mother doesn’t think so but I’m sure glad I did. Now, she get to spoil her great-granddaughter with all of the girly girl things.

Wow this brought back memories for me! I too was a tomboy, and thought I could do anything boys could do. I still think so, so I don’t think it was a strange thing to believe, then or now. 🙂
You go girl!

I never thought any difference with what the boys and girls could do. Ironically enough my mother never told me that there was but I’m sure that she hoped that I would enjoy all of the girly stuff she got me 🙂

Me either! My dad agreed, but my mom was taken aback and wanted me to be more ‘ladylike’. No thanks, lol.
